The Auditor General's annual report shows that there is a 19.5 billion rupees irregularity at the local level. According to the report, this year, 721 local levels, including 4 metropolitan cities, 10 sub-metropolitan cities, 261 municipalities and 446 rural municipalities, were audited for an amount of 1.1 trillion 9.52 billion rupees.
The Auditor General's report states that 'this year, 19.4 billion rupees have been irregular at the local level'. Of the irregularity, 2.1 billion 3.3 billion rupees are to be recovered, 15.1 billion 18.94 billion rupees are to be regularized and 1.84 billion rupees are advances.
Compared to the audited figures, 1.72 percent irregularity has been observed at the local level. Out of the 721 local levels, 681 local levels have seen less than 5 percent irregularity, 39 local levels have seen 5 to 15 percent irregularity, and 1 local level has seen more than 15 percent irregularity.
Similarly, 148 local levels have spent Rs 115.356 crore on software purchase, maintenance and renewal, but 15 local levels have not used the purchased software worth Rs 7.799 crore. The report has pointed out that one local level has not audited its accounts.
