The Nepal Tourism Board has drawn attention to unconfirmed and misleading news spread in various media outlets and online platforms regarding travel regulations for Indian tourists visiting Nepal.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the board clarified that claims such as mandatory identity cards for Indian citizens entering Nepal through the Nepal-India border, limiting the stay of Indian tourists to 30 days, or confiscating vehicles if the period is exceeded are completely false, baseless and misleading.
‘No new restrictions have been imposed on the stay of Indian tourists, and there has been no change in the long-standing open border arrangement and bilateral understanding between Nepal and India,’ the board said in a statement on Wednesday.
The historical people-to-people relations, cultural proximity and tourism cooperation between Nepal and India are still strong and intact, the board said in the statement.
Similarly, the board has informed that the Nepal government has recently launched a new online facilitation system to facilitate the travel process for tourists entering Nepal via land routes from other countries, including India.
Through the digital system developed by the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance, arrangements have been made to make the necessary temporary entry permits and revenue payments online when foreign vehicles enter Nepal.
This step is believed to reduce the hassle at the border and make the overall travel experience of tourists more convenient.
The Nepal Tourism Board has urged the media, digital platforms, tourism entrepreneurs and the general public not to spread unverified information and to rely only on official government sources for information on tourism policies and travel rules.
The board stated that Nepal is a safe, hospitable and friendly destination for tourists from India and around the world, and the government of Nepal is committed to facilitating smooth cross-border movement, promoting sustainable tourism and expanding quality tourism experiences.
