Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Geeta Chaudhary has directed to immediately stop the free milk and ghee facilities being provided to the employees of the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC).
In a discussion held here on Tuesday, she directed to immediately stop the work, saying that there were complaints that the employees were getting free milk daily and ghee monthly, contrary to the rules. Her secretariat has stated that after the implementation of Minister Chaudhary's directive, the corporation will save Rs 7.8 million annually. 'The corporation is in a loss. Farmers are facing problems including payment, but it is not good for employees to get milk and ghee worth lakhs of rupees annually for free. Therefore, such work should be stopped immediately, serious work should be done for the welfare of the corporation,' Minister Chaudhary said during the directive.
The amount saved by cutting the employee facilities will now be spent on programs to pay farmers' dues and increase milk production, the ministry has stated.
