The government has adopted a policy to ensure private sector participation in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and trade. Currently, the private sector is only involved in electricity generation in the country. The government has stated that it will promote energy-based industries and increase domestic consumption extensively. Although 4200 MW of electricity is currently connected to the national system, the peak demand is only 2600 MW. The Electricity Authority has stated that it will reach 1800 MW at other times.
Presenting the policy and program for the fiscal year 2083/084, President Ram Chandra Poudel also said that 30,000 MW of electricity will be generated in the coming decade. He said that a single-door system will be implemented to achieve this goal. Energy promoters have been saying that they are forced to visit more than 23 government agencies to build a project. The government has adopted a policy to implement a single-door system to end this situation.
