Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that the government will develop energy as a sector that will drive the economy as the contribution of the electricity sector is increasing.

Understanding the 53-point suggestions submitted by the Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) for the budget and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, Finance Minister Wagle made this observation. 'The government is in favor of advancing the energy sector with special priority. Its contribution to the economy is increasing, and we will also formulate policies to make it a sector that drives the economy,' he said.

Finance Minister Wagle clarified that the government wants to work with investors and that investors should also move forward in a way that shows that energy is a sector in which they invest with high professionalism and honesty.

In a meeting with Finance Minister Wagle, IPPAN Chairman Ganesh Karki proposed 53-point suggestions and emphasized that the government should bring policies and programs to invest in the development of the energy sector. Stating that the private sector is ready to contribute to the government's goal of generating 30,000 megawatts of electricity in the next 10 years, Chairman Karki emphasized that policies, programs and budgets should be allocated accordingly. He emphasized that for that, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) should be opened and the private sector should be involved in electricity trading transmission lines.

IPPAN Chairman Karki suggested that the government should encourage the private sector through policy and legal means, including issuing an initial public offering (IPO) on time from the Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal, and making arrangements for peace and security for the project.

Participants in the Vetravata program said that other options for buying and selling electricity should be implemented to realize the government's goal of achieving 30,000 megawatts of electricity installed capacity in 10 years, including declaring Nepal a decade of energy development and consumption growth, as suggested by IPPAN.
