Anjan Shrestha, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that if the government creates a proper environment, 82 percent of the economy will be driven by the private sector. He said this at the 60th Annual General Meeting of the federation.

With each change of government, policies, priorities and mechanisms change, and even good policies have not had a positive impact due to insufficient time for implementation.

'The economy is paying the long-term price of decisions made for short-term gains today,' he said, 'but the situation should be different now. There is an increased possibility of a stable government providing policy stability, and the private sector should also be ready to fulfill its responsibility. If the government creates a proper environment, it is up to us, the private sector, to drive 82 percent of the economy.'

He said that the crisis in West Asia risks having an adverse impact on price increases, fuel supplies and remittance flows. 'The gap between revenue and government expenditure has reached more than 150 billion,' he said, 'Not even half of the expected credit flow has reached the private sector. On the other hand, the morale of the private sector has declined significantly in the past few years.'
