Vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 26.13 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
Compared to the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, imports of Rs 6.94 billion, or 36.19 percent, were imported in the same period of the current fiscal year. While vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 19.19 billion were imported in the first nine months of the previous fiscal year.
Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office Uday Singh Bista said that there has been an increase in the import of vehicles and spare parts used in them in the current fiscal year. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Rs 18.22 billion in revenue has been collected from the import of spare parts used in vehicles. While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, Rs 14.84 billion in revenue was collected from the import of vehicles alone.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 591 fuel-powered jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.17 billion have been imported. While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, 805 fuel-powered jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.66 billion were imported.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 45,620 motorcycles (unassembled) worth Rs 6.42 billion were imported. While in the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, 35,799 motorcycles (unassembled) worth Rs 4.67 billion were imported.
Similarly, in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 21,639 tractors and tillers worth Rs 2.04 billion were imported. In the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, 13,861 tractors and tillers worth Rs 1.35 billion were imported.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, electric vehicles worth Rs 2.98 billion were imported. Compared to the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, the import of electric vehicles in terms of value increased by 102 percent, or Rs 1.5 billion. In the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, electric vehicles worth Rs 1.48 billion were imported.
In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 493 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.46 billion were imported. While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, 172 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 480 million were imported.
