22 electric scooters that were being smuggled into Nepal by evading customs have been seized. On Thursday, the Armed Police Force seized 22 electric scooters, including 14 from the main customs checkpoint in Birgunj Metropolitan City-16, 7 from the Sirsia checkpoint in Birgunj Metropolitan City-25, and 1 from the Prasaunibhatha checkpoint in Bindabasini Rural Municipality-5.
The police said that they found the scooters illegally being smuggled into Nepal by evading customs. As soon as the police team arrived, the person who was smuggling the scooters fled, leaving behind the goods. The estimated value of the seized scooters is Rs 1.73 million, according to the Armed Police Force.
All the seized scooters have been handed over to the Birgunj Customs Office for necessary action.
DSP Mohan Raj Niraula, Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force Parsa, informed that surveillance has been tightened to control customs evasion and smuggling of illegal goods in the border area.
