The daily operating hours of Tribhuvan International Airport will change from tonight. The airport will now close at 11:45 pm every day and open only at 6:30 am.

According to the airport's general manager Teknath Sitaula, earlier until Monday, the airport was operating from 6 am to 1 am. At that time, it was closed for only about 5 hours from 1 pm to 6 am. According to the new arrangement, the daily closure time has now been extended.

According to the NOTAM issued by the airport, construction work will be carried out in the taxiway Bravo, Charlie, Cubic and Romeo areas near the runway from today. The airport will remain completely closed during this period. Due to which, flights delayed due to various reasons will be affected.

This arrangement will come into effect from 11:45 pm on Baisakh 7 and will remain in effect until 6:30 am on Jestha 4. Flights will be closed during the same period every day. Due to this, the schedule of flights to Gulf countries, India and Turkey has also been postponed.

Earlier, flight hours at the airport were limited in various stages due to infrastructure expansion. For the first time in Magh 2081, construction work was started by closing flights from 10 pm. Later, the system of closing after 11 pm was gradually reduced. This decision, which will be implemented from Monday, is the third time.

Infrastructure expansion work is progressing rapidly at Tribhuvan International Airport with the goal of serving about 10 million passengers annually after 2026. The construction of an international apron, parallel taxiway and hangar is underway with the joint investment of the Government of Nepal and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

According to the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project at Sinamangal, the closure time was gradually reduced with the completion of the complex construction work related to the runway. Currently, three projects are operating within the airport .

According to Acting General Manager Sitaula, currently around 10,000 domestic and 12,000 international passengers travel to and from Kathmandu Airport daily.
