The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has given in-principle consent to the Department of Transport Management to adjust the fares of public vehicles. The department has stated that it has decided to adjust the fares once the consent is received. Accordingly, the department has stated that it is preparing to make public the list with the information on the inter-provincial fare adjustment.
The automatic fare system was implemented by a ministerial decision on 31 Chaitra 078, whereby the fares of public vehicles automatically increase or decrease according to the change in the price of fuel. Accordingly, the Department of Transport Management has been authorized to adjust the fares of inter-provincial transport in the same proportion if the price of petroleum products decreases or increases by 5 percent or more. According to Saroj Sitaula, Senior Vice President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, after the department makes the decision and publishes the fare, the new fare will be implemented in the respective provinces.
