The government has announced that it will operate a free blue bus service in all seven provinces to ensure safe movement of women. The Blue Bus Service is also mentioned in the 100 agendas related to governance reforms issued by the Council of Ministers on 13 Chaitra 2082. The government plans to bring at least 25 buses into operation within 100 days in the first phase.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Department of Transport Management and Sajha Yatayat are engaged in discussions to operate the Blue Bus Service. However, the ministry's spokesperson Ramhari Pokharel said that the overall 'action plan' being prepared according to the government's 100 agenda will also be included. 'We will work according to the action plan and everything will be done within the specified time frame,' he said.

Sajha Yatayat Chief Executive Officer Bhupendra Aryal said that they are in favor of operating it. ‘We are in favor of operating the blue bus service, but since it is said to be free, it is a complex task, and its modalities have not been decided,’ he said. He said that discussions are underway as the route of the blue bus service and who will lead it have not been mentioned.

Sajha Bus has 111 buses, both petroleum and electric. Most of the buses are operating in the valley. Sajha is operating 2 night buses on Kathmandu-Baglung and plans to operate them on Kathmandu-Chitwan soon.

Earlier, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane had launched a free bus service for women in his constituency Chitwan-2 in 2080 Baisakh. A 32-seat bus has been operated for women in Chitwan-2. The blue bus has been named ‘Blue Bus’. The bus will run from Shaktikhor, Padampur in Chitwan-2 to Bharatpur, a distance of about 25 kilometers.

The service was stopped after the implementation of the code of conduct for the Falgun 21 elections, said Sita Gyawali, the municipal president of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). ‘For some time, the vehicle was not operational due to breakdown, and then it was operational, but after the implementation of the election code of conduct, it was stopped,’ she said, ‘Since then, we have not made any new decisions  and we have not repaired the vehicle .’
