Prakash Kumar Shrestha has been elected as the president of the Ramechhap Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Shrestha, a candidate from a joint team of businessmen close to the Congress, UML and NCP, defeated independent candidate Kumar Shrestha by a margin of 529 votes.
Out of the total 1,362 votes cast in the election held on Friday, Prakash Kumar Shrestha received 932 votes while Kumar Shrestha received only 403 votes. Similarly, 27 votes were invalidated, informed Election Officer Chudamani Aryal. Out of the total 1,698 voters of the association, 1,362 votes were cast.
Out of the 15-member working committee, 14 people, including office bearers and members, except for the president, had already been elected unopposed on 10 Chaitra. The office bearers elected unopposed include Yagya Prasad Subedi as general secretary, Akash Rijal as senior vice president, Suresh Udas as vice president of commerce, Ramsudish Shah Sonar as vice president of industry, Sitaram Lohar as secretary and Jhanak Bahadur Budhathoki (Uttam) as treasurer.
Similarly, Vasudev Phuyal has been re-elected as a lifetime member of the joint business team, while Manju Majhi has been selected as a female member for the first time. Shyam Kumar Shrestha, Kishore Poudel, Suroj Kumar Tamang, Devchandra Kathet and Raju Shrestha have been elected unopposed as open members. Similarly, Tikaraj Aran has also been elected unopposed as an associate member, which is included for the first time this time.
