The government is going to celebrate International Wellness Day on April 15 with various programs .
A high-level organizing committee meeting held at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on Thursday, including Tourism Minister Khadak Raj Poudel, decided to organize programs extensively in 753 local levels and all seven provinces across the country on that day .
The participants of the meeting emphasized that Wellness Day should not be limited to formalities but should be taken forward as a national campaign . They expressed the view that health should be linked to national pride, livelihoods and long-term development .
Minister Poudel pointed out the need to put wellness into practice by linking the traditions of yoga and meditation with Nepal's identity . He said that wellness is important to reduce the growing depression among citizens and protect the country's identity .
Member of the House of Representatives Prashant Upreti suggested that wellness should be taken forward by linking it with Nepal's cultural and spiritual heritage . He said that by conducting meditation, healthy lifestyle and mindfulness-related activities in schools, hotels and mountainous areas, an impact can be made in a short time.
Secretary of the Ministry Mukunda Prasad Niraula said that wellness can be used as Nepal's 'soft power' and should be taken as an opportunity to promote it in the world.
Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Deepak Raj Joshi said that wellness tourism is a major potential of Nepal and its income can be increased through its development, packaging and promotion.
LP Bhanu, founding member of Life Sciences, said that wellness is the art of living and it is an important subject that Nepal can offer to the world.

Currently, Nepal's tourism income is 612 million US dollars, of which the board says that wellness tourism accounts for about 25 million (4 percent).
