Despite the occasional power outages (tripping) due to wind, rain and various other conditions, the Nepal Electricity Authority has reported a significant decrease compared to the previous fiscal year.

Hitendra Dev Shakya, Executive Director of the Authority, said that the problem of tripping is decreasing due to the strengthening of transmission and distribution lines and substations and immediate improvements made in places where technical problems were observed.  According to the data of the Authority's Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, the rate of power tripping and the duration of power outages have decreased significantly. The Authority's data shows that the number of occasional power outages (tripping) and the duration of power outages have decreased significantly in all provinces and the center in the fiscal year 2082/083 compared to the fiscal year 2081/082.

Hitendra Dev Shakya, Executive Director of the Authority, said that the problem of tripping is decreasing due to the strengthening of transmission and distribution lines and substations and immediate improvements made in places where technical problems were observed. He said that the data itself shows that the reliability of electricity has increased significantly. In Falgun of the last fiscal year, there were 66.32 trippings. During that period, there were 32.17 hours of power outages.

According to the NEA, there were only 47.71 trippings in Falgun of the current fiscal year. During Falgun, there were only 12.55 hours of power outages. In the current fiscal year, both trippings and power outages are the highest in Shrawan and Bhadra. In Shrawan, there were 126 trippings and 44.87 hours of power outages. In Bhadra, there were 115.15 trippings and 41.38 hours of power outages.

Shakya says that the reduction in both the number of power trippings and the duration of power outages has brought great relief to electricity customers. ‘It cannot be said that power does not go out even once. It does not happen all at once. It is happening gradually,' he said, 'The quality of electricity has improved compared to before, we urge you to increase the use of electrical appliances.' While it is being said that the import of petroleum products and gas will be affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Shakya urged consumers to increase the use of electrical appliances.

Shakya says that this has been possible due to the management that the Authority has recently carried out by implementing technical improvements, systemic improvements, and training skilled manpower for maintenance and improvement around the clock. He also says that the Authority is continuously working on identifying and improving substations with high tripping rates, and shifting the load there.
