The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined Shreeram Gas Industry Rs. 3 lakh. The department has said that 6,377 gas cylinders, each filled with 14.2 kg, were found stored in a warehouse in Harisiddhi.

The department's inspection team has fined the industry for hoarding gas to create an artificial shortage. It has been instructed to coordinate with Nepal Oil Corporation and arrange for the sale and distribution of the gas cylinders in stock.

The industry has been fined for creating an artificial shortage, hoarding or selling any item. The department has stated that it acted in accordance with Section 16, Sub-section 2, Clause 6 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS. The department has said that unfair commercial and business activities should not be carried out. However, the department has concluded that the gas industry has engaged in unfair commercial and business activities. Sub-section 1(b) of Section 39 states that a fine of 2 to 3 lakh rupees can be imposed. The department has imposed the fine accordingly.

The department has urged the gas producing (bottling) industry and distributors to facilitate the distribution system without creating artificial shortages that would affect the supply when the demand for gas is high.
The statement states that the department is working to create a clean and competitive market, bring ease to the supply system, and control illegal business activities including artificial shortages. According to the department, with the policy of 7.1 kg gas distribution, the supply of gas in the market is becoming easier and will be normalized in a few days. If improper business activities are found, the department has also asked to inform the toll free number 1137.
