The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has completed the entire process to determine the support price of wheat this year and sent a proposal to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies. To ensure fair prices to farmers, the ministry had prepared a report through the Department of Agriculture after conducting an on-site study in 10 different districts.
During the study, the department had analyzed the cost of wheat production and seeds, fertilizers, labor, inflation and market prices and proposed a minimum support price based on production costs. After the on-site study, the department's team coordinated with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies for further discussions based on the recommendations sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for scientific price determination, said Prakash Kumar Sanjel, Director General of the Department of Agriculture.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development will submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers. In the last fiscal year 2081/82, the support price of wheat was fixed at Rs 3,867 per quintal.
In the fiscal year 2080/81, the support price of wheat was Rs 3,650 per quintal. In the fiscal year 2079/80, the price was fixed at Rs 3,351. The price is determined by increasing some amount every year.
After the entire process is completed, the Council of Ministers will fix the price. The price thus fixed will be officially made public, informed the Ministry's Information Officer Mahananda Joshi. It is said that wheat will be purchased through the Food Management and Trading Company Limited at the price fixed by the government.
