Nepal and Qatar have discussed economic development, tourism promotion, and cooperation exchanges. At the meeting, detailed discussions were held on Nepal-Qatar economic development, tourism promotion, expansion of air flights, and further strengthening cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
The meeting was held between Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha and Qatari Ambassador to Nepal His Excellency Mishal bin Mohammad Ali Al Ansari and Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Board Member of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mohd Ahmed M. A. Alobaidali and representatives of Qatar Airways.
The discussions focused on increasing the number of direct flights between Nepal and Qatar, adding new destinations and the possibility of collaboration between Nepal Airlines Corporation and Qatar Airways.
During the discussion, Minister Sinha stated that the active participation of international airlines is necessary for the full operation of Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport, and the role of Qatar Airways will be important. He also informed that the government is emphasizing on policy reforms and facilitation for the expansion of tourism, investment and trade in Nepal.
President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that there is potential for expansion in tourism, investment, aviation, hotels and infrastructure between Nepal and Qatar. He said that Nepal has attractive potential for Qatari investors in the hydropower, tourism, agriculture and service sectors.
Board member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mohd Ahmed M.A. Alobaidali stated that the Qatari private sector is interested in long-term economic cooperation with Nepal and expressed confidence that aviation and tourism cooperation will further strengthen trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
The meeting is expected to take Nepal-Qatar relations to a new height, promote tourism and contribute to economic development through expansion of air connectivity. The Qatari delegation arrived in Nepal on Sunday at the invitation of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry for the meeting of the Nepal-Qatar Joint Business Council (JBC).
