Of the 30,000 tons of urea fertilizer purchased by Nepal from India through the 'G2G' process, 22,05 tons have been imported through various border crossings.
According to Durga Prasad Pandey, Chief of the Agricultural Materials Company Limited Madhesh Provincial Office Birgunj, 22,500 tons of urea fertilizer have been imported so far through the Birgunj and Biratnagar border crossings.
The company purchased the fertilizer directly from India's National Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited. So far, 13,500 tons of urea have been imported from the Birgunj border crossing and 8,500 tons from the Biratnagar border crossing. Fertilizer has been imported in 7 railway racks from the Birgunj border crossing alone.
India's National Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited has awarded the contract for the transportation of the fertilizer to the international company Aditya Birla, which has supplied the fertilizer from Indonesia to Nepal via the Kolkata port.
So far, 14,000 tons of fertilizer have been imported from the Birgunj checkpoint, of which the Birgunj Provincial Office has received 9,000 tons and the Bhairahawa Provincial Office has received 5,000 tons.
The Koshi Provincial Office has received its share of fertilizer in full, with 8,500 tons of fertilizer entering directly from the Kolkata port through the Jogbani checkpoint on the Biratnagar side.
Out of the total 30,000 tons of this consignment, the Birgunj Provincial Office will receive 11,500 tons, the Bhairahawa Provincial Office 10,000 tons, and the Biratnagar Provincial Office 8,500 tons. Now the Birgunj Office is yet to receive 2,500 tons of fertilizer and the Bhairahawa Office 5,000 tons of fertilizer. Bhairahawa's fertilizer is also being transported from Birgunj. Pandey said that the urea currently being imported will be useful for the upcoming Chaite paddy and summer paddy crop seasons.
