Nepal has seen a significant increase in international tourist arrivals in January 2026.
According to data released by the Immigration Office and the Nepal Tourism Board, 92,573 international tourists visited Nepal in the month, which is 15.7 percent more than in January 2025.
Even when compared to January 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, tourist arrivals have increased by 14 percent.
India topped the list of tourists visiting Nepal in the first month of 2026. In January, 26,624 tourists visited Nepal from India, accounting for 28.8 percent of the total arrivals. This was followed by 9,101 (9.8 percent) tourists from China, 8,406 (9.1 percent) tourists from the United States, 5,814 (6.3 percent) tourists from Bangladesh, and 4,957 (5.4 percent) tourists from Australia.
According to the regional analysis, 39.3 percent of tourists came to Nepal from South Asian countries (SAARC). 26.1 percent came from other Asian countries, 12.3 percent from Europe, 10.8 percent from the Americas, and 5.7 percent from Oceania. Similarly, 1 percent of tourists from the Middle East and 0.4 percent from Africa came to Nepal, while other regions contributed 4.5 percent.
