Cross-border payments between Nepal and China are to be facilitated. This issue was discussed between Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel and People's Bank of China (PBOC) Governor Fan Kongsong.
The two governors met on the occasion of the 20th Asia-Pacific High-Level Meeting on Banking Supervision organized by the Bank for International Settlements in Tianjin, China. During the meeting, the two governors discussed opportunities and challenges in the areas of cross-border payment facilitation, investment and cooperation.
During the meeting, the two governors discussed emerging practices in the financial sector, benefits from innovation and technology development, and bilateral cooperation on contemporary issues. In addition, the Rastra Bank said that discussions were held on facilitating payments through QR codes and reducing costs during the visits of citizens of both countries.
On the occasion, PBOC Governor Fan expressed the view that the Chinese central bank is ready to modernize electronic payment transactions, exchange cooperation and cooperate.
During his visit to China, Governor Poudel expressed the view that continuity of cooperation, coordination and communication between the two central banks is necessary and that Nepal Rastra Bank is ready to play the necessary role for this.
The meeting was also attended by Zhou Yu, Director General of the International Department of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), Dirgha Bahadur Rawal, Executive Director of the Banking Supervision Department, and Roshan Neupane, Assistant Director of the Governor's Office, on behalf of the Nepal Rastra Bank.
