Payments made through QR codes by Nepali citizens during their visit to India will be further facilitated.

The meeting between Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra discussed further facilitation of the issue.

The meeting was held at the RBI headquarters in Mumbai last week between the Rastra Bank and the RBI Governor. The meeting discussed cross-border electronic payment transactions between Nepal and India and bilateral interests, according to the Rastra Bank. The meeting focused on facilitating payments made through QR codes by Nepali citizens during their visits to India.

Similarly, it is said that discussions were held on good policy practices implemented by the RBI in the areas of monetary policy, liquidity management, foreign exchange management, artificial intelligence-based supervision, and information technology.

The meeting also discussed emerging and contemporary issues in the financial sector as well as bilateral cooperation. Kiran Pandit, Executive Director of the Foreign Exchange Management Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, Satyendra Timilsina, Executive Director of the Payment Systems Department, and Dirgha Bahadur Rawal, Executive Director of the Bank Supervision Department, had expressed the view that cooperation with the RBI could be possible on various issues related to the department's work.

During his visit to India, Governor Poudel also met with high-ranking officials of the International Financial Services Centers Authority in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the concept of the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City Gift, the current status, policies adopted for investment promotion, and possible cooperation with Nepal Rastra Bank.
