A study conducted by Nepal Rastra Bank has shown that entrepreneurs aged between 21 and 70 years are involved in startup ventures.
According to a special study report on the trend of startup enterprises conducted by the Central Bank in Koshi Province, the total investment in this sector is Rs 2.56 billion. Of this, 38.7 percent is debt and 61.3 percent is equity. According to the study, 39.3 percent of entrepreneurs are in the age group of 21 to 35, 44.4 percent are in the age group of 36 to 50, and 16.2 percent are in the age group of 50 to 70. Similarly, the study states that among the entrepreneurs in the age group of 21 to 35, the highest number of entrepreneurs is involved in the information technology sector (73.3 percent) and the lowest number is involved in the agriculture sector (21.2 percent). The younger generation seems to be more interested in digital and technology-focused enterprises, while entrepreneurs in the age group of 36 to 50 are mostly involved in the agriculture sector. The lowest number of entrepreneurs is 26.7 percent in the information technology sector.
Also, the highest percentage of 50 to 70 year olds is in the tourism sector, while the study states that this age group has no involvement in the information technology sector.
The Central Bank has stated that data was collected from 160 startup enterprises based on the number of enterprises in Koshi Province that have registered applications for startup loans at the Industrial Business Development Foundation and have been 'shortlisted'.
The 160 enterprises participating in the study include five business sectors: agriculture and forestry, manufacturing, service-oriented, tourism and information technology.
Of these, 41.3 percent are in agriculture and forestry, 18.1 percent in manufacturing, 17.5 percent in service-oriented, 13.8 percent in tourism, and 9.4 percent in information technology.
