In the first five months of the current fiscal year (2082/83), electric vehicles worth Rs 8.95 billion have been imported. According to the Customs Department, revenue of Rs 5.56 billion has been generated from these vehicle imports.

Electric vehicles with a capacity of up to 300 kW are imported into Nepal. Of these, the highest number of vehicles imported in the five months of the current fiscal year was 51 kW to 100 kW. According to the department, 2,164 units of vehicles with a capacity of 51-100 kW were imported, valued at Rs 5.6 billion 8.6 million 47 thousand. The lowest number of vehicles imported in 2019 was 5 vehicles with a capacity of 300 kW. The total value was Rs 35.1 million 33 thousand, according to the department. 1,215 units of vehicles up to 50 kW were imported, valued at Rs 2.7 billion 32 million 57 thousand. The department's data shows that electric vehicles have been imported into Nepal from China, India, Thailand, the UK, Germany, Korea and the US. China is the largest importer of vehicles of any capacity. Of the total 1,215 units of vehicles up to 50 kW, 702 were imported from China and 513 from India.

Similarly, 382 units of 101-200 kW capacity vehicles have been imported from China, 14 from India, 10 from the UK, 6 from Germany and 2 from Korea.

1,539 units of 51-100 kW capacity vehicles have been imported from China, 331 from Thailand, 293 from India and 1 unit from the UK.

4 units of 201-300 kW capacity vehicles have been imported from China and 1 unit from the US, the department said.
