The Nagdhunga-Naubise Malekhu road section will remain open for a few days from today. The second layer of blacktop work has been completed on the narrow section of the Nagdhunga-Piplamod section, while the difficult hill cutting work in the Galchhi-Gajuri section of Dhading is still pending, said Keshav Prasad Ojha, head of the eastern section of the Nagdhunga-Muglin road project.
"The work of cutting the cliffs is not over. Since the continuous closure of the road will cause inconvenience to passengers and drivers, we are going to open it for one or two days," he said. "After that, we will close the Galchhi-Gajuri section for a few days and do the hill cutting work." The road was closed for 5 hours daily from Mangsir 24 to Poush 1 to improve the road.
After complaints were received that the UML general convention was affected by the closure of the road, it was decided to open it on the 26th and 27th. A team of the Youth Association close to the UML met the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, and requested him not to close some roads. After that, the blacktop work was stopped for two days in the afternoon and the road was opened.
The Road Department has given high priority to the blacktop work of the Nagdhunga-Piplamod section of the road within Kathmandu district. Currently, traffic movement on the road from Nagdhunga to Piplamod and in the Pokharevhir area of the Galchhi-Gajuri section of Dhading has been stopped from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm from Masir 24 to Poush 1, saying that the road needs to be widened.
The first-level blacktop work on the Nagdhunga-Naubise section has been completed and the second-level is underway, said the chief of the project, Ojha. ‘Even if the entire contract is not completed in the current fiscal year, there is a plan to complete the blacktop work,’ he said, ‘8 kilometers of the second-level blacktop work has been completed in the first section.’
The total distance of this section is 12.26 km. He said that the third-level blacktop work will be started as soon as the second-level blacktop work is completed. The overall physical progress of this section is 80 percent. The second-level blacktop work has been completed from Naubise to Khatripauwa.
Naubise-Malekhu falls under the second section. Its distance is 43.54 km. Work is underway to build a retaining wall in this section. ‘The work of demolishing the old blacktop and laying a base and graveling is underway,’ he said, ‘The first layer of blacktop was blacktopped on 15 km of the road before Asar, now 28.54 km is left, the blacktop work on that distance will be completed within the current fiscal year.’
He said that there were problems due to litigation in some sections. ‘In this section, 4 km of the second layer of road has also been blacktopped,’ he said, ‘The construction of 9 out of 13 bridges has been completed.’ Its overall progress is 46 percent.
