More than 2,000 trees have been cut down for the construction of the 1,063-megawatt Upper Arun Project in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality.

Trees have been cut from the national forest and community forest of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2 and 4. Chandralal Rai, Information Officer of the Division Forest Office, said that 2,168 trees have been cut for the construction of the Upper Arun Project and access road.

Rai, Information Officer of the Division Forest Office, said that about 21.08 hectares of trees have been cut from the national forest in Bhotkhola-4 and the Paripakha Community Forest and Makpalung Community Forest areas in Bhotkhola-2 for the construction of the Upper Arun Project and access road.

The Authority has started work by signing a contract agreement with Gayatri JV of India and Kankai Surunga JV Company of Jhapa for the construction of about 22 kilometers of access road, including a 2.03 kilometer tunnel.
