Customs clearance work, which was halted due to the customs agent's protest, has resumed. The protest was stopped after the talks between the Customs Department and the Customs Agents Federation concluded positively today. With this, customs clearance work has resumed from today.
The Customs Agents Federation Nepal had been organizing protest programs including 'pen down' at customs offices across the country since November 23, alleging that some of the provisions included in the Customs Act 2082 had created an environment that negatively affected the professional rights and interests of customs agents, ease of work, and facilitation of international trade.
'We would like to inform everyone concerned that the pen down program has been withdrawn as the demands of the federation have been addressed positively after discussions between the Customs Department and the Federation,' said Prachin Kumar Thaib, President of the Customs Agents Federation, in a statement.
Similarly, the Customs Department has also issued a statement informing that the talks between the customs agents and the department have concluded positively. In the statement issued by the department, it has been decided to improve the management of various demands submitted to the Customs Department by customs agents, gradually implement demands that can be addressed by the department/office, and send information to the Ministry of Finance on appropriate demands that need to be addressed in the regulations.
