The capacity of the Upper Myagdi Hydropower Project under construction in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality has increased.
The project's capacity, which was previously 37 MW, has been increased to 46.25 MW, according to the developer, Hydro Empire Pvt. Ltd. Project Chief Ramesh Subedi informed that the capacity has been increased by 9.25 MW as the water resources are sufficient.
'In-principle agreement has been received from the Power Development Department to increase the project's capacity by increasing the size of the tunnel, head (height of the power house and dam), turbine capacity and additional investment,' he said, 'The capacity has been increased in a way that does not require additional land acquisition and forest area consumption.'
The head, which was previously 314 meters high, has been increased to 317 meters and the amount of water pumped into the tunnel from the river has been increased from 14.41 cubic meters per second to 17.24 cubic meters per second.
The estimated cost is Rs. 8.46542 billion, said Jit Bahadur Gharti, Managing Director of Hydro Empire. Construction of a dam and a power house at Ghimleti (Kharpani) has begun in Dhawalagiri-4 Singkosh Dobhan. The project has made 35 percent physical progress so far.
Construction of a 3,838-meter-long tunnel began in 2081 Falgun. So far, 2,400 meters of tunnel have been constructed from the dam site, Chechung audit, and Ghimleti outlet. The project's administrative building has been constructed in Ghimleti. There will be an 843-meter-long penstock pipeline from the outlet to the power house. This project is run-of-the-river (based on river tributaries).
The electricity generated from this project will be connected to the central grid through the Dandakhet substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority. Preparations are underway to construct a double circuit transmission line of about 10 kilometers long with a capacity of 132 kV. About 18 kilometers of access road has been constructed from Shivaratri Khola to the dam construction site.
The project has helped to extend roads to Khiwang and Chechung villages on the recommendation of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality. Project Chief Subedi said that the target is to generate electricity by Chaitra 2083.
A public hearing of the draft revised preliminary environmental assessment report was held in Dhawalagiri-4 Naura on Saturday to collect suggestions from residents and stakeholders in the project-affected areas as per the capacity enhancement process.
