Road expansion work is being carried out at night in Gaindakot on the Narayanghat-Butwal section of the East-West Highway. The work has been carried out at night as 170 meters of the road westward from the Narayani River bridge are yet to be connected to the blacktop.

Information Officer Engineer Shiva Khanal of the eastern section of the Narayanghat-Butwal Road Project said that work is being done from 10 pm to 4 am the next day. 'There was a problem in working smoothly because the traffic volume was high during the day,' he said, 'The road is being expanded smoothly because the traffic volume is low at night.' He said that work was started at night after problems were seen in traffic management due to long traffic jams during the day.

Information Officer Khanal said that if progress is made as per the schedule, the road will be blacktopped in the next 10 days. The project office has stated that the work of blacktopping on one side of the eastern section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road has been completed, except for this section of Gaindakot and the hill of Daunne. Khanal said that the road expansion work is progressing rapidly after the festival is over.

'Three km of the road in Daunne is being blacktopped, while the remaining 10 km is being sloped,' he said, 'where the two-way road has been blacktopped, work is being done to beautify it by adding dividers, service lanes, and other improvements.' Khanal informed that the physical progress of this road has reached about 70 percent. According to him, of the 114 km of the Narayanghat-Butwal section, 65 km is in the eastern section and 49 km is in the western section.

During the road expansion, 100 km of this section is being expanded to four lanes and 14 km of the Daunne road is being expanded to three lanes. Due to geographical difficulties, the road will be expanded to only three lanes in Daunne, said the project's information officer, Khanal. According to him, during the expansion, two additional lanes will be constructed as 'service lanes' from the road to the north and south in the urban area.
