The acquisition process for the land between the Sirsia Dry Port and the Integrated Security Check Post in Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality-25 has not yet been finalized due to the lack of land title deeds for the indigenous land.

There are a total of 480 households on this land, but the technical survey of the households for the distribution of compensation has not yet begun.

Chief Customs Administrator of Birgunj Customs Office Bishnu Prasad Gyawali said that compensation has been distributed for 51 bighas of land out of the total 62 bighas of land to be acquired so far. He said that there are mutual disputes between landowners on 17 kathas of land and there is 2 bighas of indigenous land, which has hindered the acquisition process.

Gyawali said that although compensation for most of the land has been distributed, complications have arisen due to indigenous land. 84 indigenous households on the land to be acquired have built houses on 2 bighas, 18 kathas, 10 dhurs of land, but they do not have land titles. 'Even though there is a possession, they are not in a position to receive compensation immediately because there is no land title.' In their case, a decision should be taken by the federal government's cabinet,' he said.

So far, about 5 billion rupees have been distributed as compensation. He said that the federal Ministry of Land Reforms and Management has recently issued a letter instructing to determine the amount of compensation for the remaining land, and they are working with the goal of completing it within 15 days.

The federal government had started the process of acquiring 62 bighas of land between Sirsia Dry Port and Integrated Security Check Post 9 years ago. The decision of the Government of Nepal on 2073 Poush 17 has moved the process of acquiring the land of the locals forward. Locals have started receiving compensation through the District Administration Office from Kartik 27 of the same year.

According to government standards, the highest compensation amount here is 67 lakh 70 thousand rupees per kaththa and the lowest is 24 lakh 60 thousand rupees per kaththa. 9 years ago, 62 bighas of land of the locals were stopped for the acquisition process.

Khalwatola village and a local farm lie between the Sirsia dry port, which has been in operation for two and a half decades, and the Integrated Security Check Post, which has been in operation for eight years. After the acquisition of this village, which is located between these two large structures, both structures will be connected to each other.

In the past, both the checkpoints were separate customs points, but from the first day of the current fiscal year, both have been merged. After the acquisition of 62 bighas of land, the Birgunj Customs will get additional land, which will also help in import, export and trade facilitation.
