Eleven industries are still not connected to electricity due to additional premiums paid for consuming electricity through dedicated and trunk lines.

The Nepal Electricity Authority had shut down the electricity supply to 23 industries on Kartik 4 and Kartik 7. Out of the total 25 industries that had to pay their dues, two industries had already shut down. Of these, 11 industries are not connected to electricity.

According to the authority, the lines were connected after Gharana Foods and Goenka Foods paid the first installment in the middle of Tihar. Since then, the lines of the disconnected industries were connected after the industries paid the installments on Monday 4, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2, according to the authority.

Last Monday, a middle-of-the-road proposal was put forward in a discussion between Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal, Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Anil Sinha, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Chandra Prasad Dhakal to resolve the dedicated and trunk line arrears dispute.

In the discussion, it is said that the industrialists have verbally agreed to pay the first installment of the 28 installments given by the NEA as a deposit, not as an 'installment' but as a 'disputed amount', and to immediately connect the power line and then proceed with the review, appeal and judicial process.

The industries had yet to pay the premium fee for the use of dedicated and trunk lines from 2072 Magh to 2075 Baisakh.  However, the industrialists have been claiming that the amount paid to the NEA is not an installment but a 'deposit'.  However, the NEA has said that the line was connected to the disconnected industry because of the installment payment,  Spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said.  The NEA has stated that it is not aware of the agreement reached with the government.
