Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising has said that the government is ready to enter into power purchase agreements (PPA) to support companies interested in encouraging private investment in wind energy. Minister Ghising said that the government has a policy to connect solar energy to the grid and store it.
At a program organized in the capital on Tuesday on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, Energy Minister Ghisingh said that work is being done to consume the generated electricity within the country with high priority on demand-side reforms. He also said that the establishment of charging stations and the use of induction cookers have been encouraged to promote the use of electric vehicles to increase electricity consumption.
'Currently, we are mainly consuming it within the country and exporting the surplus electricity during the rainy season to India and Bangladesh, but our priority is to increase electricity consumption within the country,' he said. 'For this, electricity demand can be increased by expanding charging infrastructure, replacing wood and gas used for cooking with electric stoves, etc.'
At the program, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Chiranjivi Chataut mentioned that the center has made a great contribution to clean energy and electrification in remote areas.
German Ambassador to Nepal Udo Eugen Volz said that he is ready to support Nepal in areas such as sustainable energy development, livelihood improvement, and low-carbon energy conversion. Germany has been providing technical and financial assistance to Nepal's energy sector.
