Driving licenses have been available on the Nagarik app since Tuesday, about a month and a half after the Department of Transport Management was set on fire. The driving licenses were removed from the Nagarik app after the department's data center was damaged by arson during the protest on Bhadra 24.
After a long effort, the license service and driving license have been made available on the Nagarik app from various transport management offices, said Keshav Khatiwada, Director of the Department of Transport Management. The office has been providing services from the passenger waiting room as the department building was also damaged in the arson. According to him, license renewal work has been underway from 28 out of 42 transport offices till Tuesday.
The service will not start immediately in 7 offices including Pokhara, Itahari, Lahan, Butwal, Dhangadhi, Dang and Chitwan. ‘These offices have suffered major damage due to the arson, so there is a problem in starting the service,’ he said, ‘There is no problem in getting us connected to the system once the service is ready.’ He said that the department will not delay in this regard. The service will start once the office is ready. However, applications for new licenses will not be opened immediately.
Earlier, 6 to 7 thousand service recipients from all seven provinces used to apply for new licenses every day. Accordingly, 4 to 5 thousand trials were passed for new licenses. This service is being provided by 42 transport management offices across the country. ‘It will take another day or two for this service to start,’ he said. ‘New applications will be opened only after the remaining transport management offices start providing the service, a time frame will have to be set for that.’
The department is preparing to arrange for applications to be received by setting a time frame according to the province.
