As urea fertilizer, which is being imported by agricultural input companies through global tenders, begins to arrive regularly, the railway racks carrying fertilizer have begun to fill up at the railway stations in Birgunj and Raxaul.
Currently, 5 railway racks of urea fertilizer have arrived at the Sirsia Dry Port in Birgunj and the Indian Railway Station Raxaul across the border. Of these, 2 are in the dry port and three in Raxaul. This week, there are two office holidays due to Chhath festival, so the fertilizer has not been transported from the railway stations to the company's warehouse.
Durga Prasad Pandey, head of the company's Birgunj provincial office, said that there are 12,500 tons of fertilizer in 5 racks and it is going to be difficult to manage the fertilizer in the company's warehouse. He said that all the warehouses, including the company's own premises in Birgunj, Bhutandevi and National Trading, are full of fertilizer, so there is a problem in managing the newly arriving fertilizer.
He said that currently 23,500 tons of fertilizer are in stock in all three warehouses in Birgunj. Out of which, 6,000 tons are urea and the rest are DAP fertilizer. The fertilizer has not been mobilized from Birgunj elsewhere as the provincial agriculture ministry has not yet allocated the quota for fertilizer imported from the old consignment.
The fertilizer that has arrived in five racks has been brought by Aditya Birla and IPL companies. IPL and Aditya Birla are bringing 55,000 tons of urea fertilizer to Nepal together, including the company and National Tendering. Stakeholders said that if the fertilizer that has already arrived is not managed in the warehouse, it will continue to be added and there will be more problems in fertilizer management.
There is no demand for fertilizer at present and this fertilizer will be useful for the wheat crop in the coming winter, said Pandey, the company's Birgunj provincial office chief.
