The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has arranged for a discount of up to 80 percent for senior citizens traveling by air. A meeting held at the authority today decided to provide a discount of 50 to 80 percent on air tickets to citizens aged 70 and above.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) Director General and Engineer Pradeep Adhikari between the Chairman of the Airline Operators Association and representatives of domestic airline operating companies of Nepal.
The meeting decided to provide 50 percent discount on all domestic air routes to senior citizens above 70 years of age on the maximum air fare set by the federal government, informed Director General Adhikari. According to him, 70 percent discount will be provided to citizens above 75 years of age and 80 percent discount to citizens above 80 years of age.
He said that it has been decided to ensure at least 50 percent discount for passengers with different abilities of any age group. Director General Adhikari mentioned that he believes that the decision taken today will ensure inclusiveness and accessibility in air travel. According to him, the airline companies participating in the meeting have been instructed to implement the decisions from today.
Accordingly, the Authority has stated that all the domestic airline companies concerned should immediately implement the decision. The Authority is confident that this plan will make air travel for senior citizens easy, convenient and affordable. Director General Adhikari expressed confidence that this decision will be effective, especially for senior citizens living in remote areas.
He said, “The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal will continue to implement more people-oriented policies in the coming days for the benefit of senior citizens, differently-abled citizens, and other passengers.”
