Similarly, since flowers are widely used, the number of people engaged in flower cultivation for Tihar is increasing. Since there is sufficient income in a short period of time, commercial cultivation of centipedes and velvet used in Tihar is done.

Flower trade is especially high during Tihar. According to Rajesh Bhakta Shrestha, President of the Nepal Floriculture Association, more than 4 million garlands are sold in the Kathmandu Valley alone during Tihar.

He says that the use of flowers is increasing in Nepal, and flower businesses have started by renting land from nurseries. With the development and expansion of urbanization, flower cultivation is taking place in the main cities of all seven provinces and in 52 districts of the country, says Chairman Shrestha. 'Nepal's environment is conducive to flower cultivation,' he says.

Flower cultivation is being carried out on an area of ​​about 270 hectares across the country. Chairman Shrestha said that there is an investment of more than Rs 8.83 billion in the flower business and 53,500 people are employed. The annual growth rate in demand and supply of the flower business is more than 10 percent.

Although the flower business was affected during the Corona pandemic, the flower business is gradually gaining momentum. In the fiscal year 2080/81, there was a turnover of more than Rs 3.68 billion, while in 2081/82, there was a turnover of Rs 3.37 billion, said Chairman Shrestha. According to the statistics of the Customs Department, the annual export of flowers and flower-related products in the fiscal year 2080/81 was 12.12 thousand, while in the fiscal year 2081/82, there was an export of Rs 21.36 million.

The association has stated that flowers produced in Nepal are being exported to countries including Japan, Hong Kong, America, Australia, Qatar, Canada, and the UAE. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to ban flowers imported from abroad this year with the aim of promoting flowers produced domestically.

Metropolitan Police Chief Rajunath Pandey said in a press conference a few days ago that the metropolis has adopted a policy to ban flowers imported from abroad.
