Demand from the private sector to take action against those involved in trespassing, looting and arson

What you should know

All the three umbrella organizations of the private sector have jointly requested the government to take immediate legal action against those involved in infiltration, looting and arson in the name of Gen-G demonstration.

Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Virendra Raj Pandey, President of Nepal Industry Confederation and Kamlesh Kumar Agarwal, President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce expressed this opinion in a meeting with Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal on Monday.

During the meeting with the Minister of Finance, the representative of the private sector complained that the private sector, which has 81 percent of the economy and 86 percent of employment, was attacked by the infiltration of the youth movement for positive change.

Entrepreneurs have become discouraged from recent events and if action is not taken against those involved in such intrusions, looting and arson, the private sector will be further discouraged, they say, and legal action should be taken immediately.

All the three umbrella organizations of the private sector have jointly requested Finance Minister Khanal to hold the election on February 21. They also said that the private sector is ready to help and cooperate in conducting the elections on time as the elections will strengthen the open market and democratic system.

While the current government's main goal is the election, it is also an opportunity to lay the foundation for reform, and the private sector insists on holding a multilateral finance conference under the leadership or involvement of the private sector to attract investment and other resources and reassure all stakeholders.

The government has announced revenue concessions, banking concessions and insurance facilitation programs for reconstruction. The private sector expects to get support for transparent transactions in the market after abolishing tariffs and implementing an online database system in customs.

The presidents of private sector representative organizations also praised the government's move. All three organizations have urged their members and entrepreneurs to use the new database process linked to the demands of the private sector. The system, which was inaugurated by Finance Minister Khanal on October 9, is expected by the private sector to address businessmen's complaints regarding the reference book, which is revised every six months.

In this system, the price details of all items that pass the inspection will be collected. According to the government, this digital resource will help to analyze and compare the goods that have passed the customs inspection and the private sector is of the view that it will help in identifying the transaction value.

The private sector says that they will continue to be active in maintaining zero tolerance against corruption and the government should also create an environment where entrepreneurs can work freely. In the meeting, Finance Minister Khanal said that the government is constantly trying to increase the morale of the private sector.
