The Kodari section of the Araniko Highway, which connects Tatopani, a major trading point with China, has been operational since Monday afternoon.
Landslides have been removed at five places including Kodari, Irku of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 under the said highway and the road has been reopened. Since July 17, the section was blocked due to landslides.
A team including Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising, Ministry Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma, Director General of Roads Department, Vijay Jaisi, conducted an on-site monitoring of the road and got information about the condition of the road. During the
monitoring, discussions were held with the residents of the Irku area most affected by the landslides, and the measures to reduce the risk of the settlement, along with long-term technical work to operate the road permanently, were also discussed.
During the festival, after the closure of the main trade route with China, there was an obstacle of the locals in the removal of landslides. After that, Minister Ghising called the local leaders including the Ward President of Bhotekoshi-2 to their residence and requested them to provide the necessary assistance and facilitation to open the road.
With the road being operational, the containers carrying goods for Dasain have started moving. Narayan Dutt Bhandari, Head of Road Division Dolakha, said that technical manpower and machines were mobilized to open the road.
