Tourists have canceled bookings in hotels in the tourist area of Sauraha. Tourists have canceled bookings even during the tourist season.
After the Genji movement on 23rd and 24th of August last year, due to the negative message spread in the international world, it is said that most of the hotel bookings have been cancelled. Om Pandey, President of Regional Hotel Association Sauraha, informed that 100% of hotels booked for September have been cancelled. According to him, the bookings for the coming months are also being cancelled.
"In this month, 65 to 70 percent of the hotel rooms were booked", he said, "Now there are only one/two tourists in the rooms."
Although the movement was going on all over the country, there were a good number of tourists in the hotels of Sauraha. But after they left, no more tourists came. Deepak Bhattarai, the outgoing president of the regional hotel association Sauraha, said that because of the negative message in the international world, tourists cannot be safe through travel agencies, they are sending around 100 emails and messages every day.
According to him, there are not even five percent of tourists compared to the capacity of hotels in Sauraha. Tourists come to Sauraha to visit Chitwan National Park. This park is world famous for its jungle safari.
