Ramechhap Airport is deserted

What you should know

Ramechhap Airport, which is busy for a few months of the year, has been deserted lately. Due to lack of regular flights from the airport, it is deserted. This airport, which is located near the eastern region from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, is now deserted due to the absence of airplanes.

During the tourist season only when going to Lukla in Solu, flights are taken from the airport. At that time, the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is more busy, so foreign tourists are brought from Kathmandu by road to Manthali and then by airplane to Lukla in Solu.

As festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath are approaching, various airlines that operate in other districts advance to the district district  Although the booking has been opened, no airlines have opened advance booking for the citizens of Ramechhap to travel by air.

As the airport operates only during the tourist season, the hotels and shops around the airport are also deserted. Although there is an airport in the district, it is a pity that the citizens of Ramechhap do not get its facilities. Local Birendra Shrestha said that political parties and provincial and federal parliamentarians should take the initiative to provide air facilities to the citizens of Ramechhap.

He said, 'When the people here go to Kathmandu by road, they have to cross 125 km of BP Rajmarg, and they have to cross about 200 km via Tamakoshi-Charikot-Mude on Pushpalal Marg.'

Due to the flood that occurred on 12th of October last year, the roads of Pushpalal Marg and BP Highway were damaged in many places, so both these roads are dangerous. Shrestha says that since there is no ambulance in the district and the two road routes from Manthali to Kathmandu are not reliable, it is very difficult to send patients with complex nature to Kathmandu.

For festivals like Dashain Tihar, which is approaching, the number of people coming from the city to the village is increasing. Narayandas Shrestha of Manthali-1 says that the journey home during the festival is not easy due to the dangerous roads.

Even though Manthali city has taken several initiatives with the aim of continuing the air service in the district and supporting tourism promotion, it has not been finalized, says Lav Shrestha, the head of the municipality in Manthali municipality.

Mayor Shrestha said, 'They went to the Ministry of Tourism to submit an attention letter to the Minister of Tourism to take initiative for regular flights at Ramechhap Airport.

Former Minister of State and Federal Member of Parliament Purna Bahadur Tamang said that only after a long struggle in Ramechhap, he succeeded in putting the airport on the tarmac. He said, 'Here's  A special initiative is being taken to operate a ship so that the citizens of Ramechhap can come and go from the airport. We are ready to take special initiatives.'

Sita, Tara, and Summit Air airlines fly between 60 and 65 flights from this airport to Lukla in Solu during the tourist season. By serving the citizens and patients of the district through the Alopalo system through the ships of those airlines, their program  Manthali Na Pa-2 Ka  Local Gunj Bahadur Shrestha said.
