Rastra Bank has requested Nepali citizens not to carry, transport and transact Indian currency (notes) of denominations other than 100. At present, there is a ban on dealing in Indian currency in Nepal with rates other than 100.

However, after some Nepalis were found to be carrying or carrying currency notes of 200, 500 and 2000 rupees with them, the National Bank issued this instruction to the general public for further information.

"According to the notification published in the gazette on 23rd December 2075, it is prohibited for anyone to deal with Indian rupees 500 and 1000 notes in circulation before November 9, 2016," Rasht Bank said, "It is prohibited to carry, carry and deal with Indian rupees 200, 500 and 2000 notes." Therefore, it is being re-informed that Nepali citizens cannot take Indian rupees to countries other than India or bring Indian rupees from other countries to Nepal.
