In the fiscal year 2081/82, Nepal imported goods worth 18 trillion 4 billion 12 billion rupees, but exported goods worth 2 trillion 77 billion 3 billion rupees. According to the Customs Department, there was a trade loss of 15 trillion 27 billion 90 million rupees in that financial year.

Nepal has traded with 163 different countries, out of which only 37 countries have had profitable trade. There is a trade deficit with the rest of the country. The data of the department shows that the trade deficit is increasing when Nepal imports more than exports.

India, China, Argentina, Ukraine, UAE, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and other countries have a trade deficit. According to the data of the Customs Department, while goods worth Rs. Diesel, petrol, cooking gas, rice, maize, iron/steel, coal, bitumen and other commodities are imported from India. On the other hand, processed sunflower oil, cardamom, mixed juice, yarn, cement and other products have been exported to India.

Similarly, when goods worth 3 trillion 41 billion 10445 million rupees were imported from China, only 2 billion 63 billion rupees worth of goods were exported. Mobile phones, electric vehicles, apples, laptops, garlic, shoes, etc. have been imported from China. Nepal has exported carpets, felt goods, wooden materials, yarchagumba, incense sticks etc. to China. According to the

department, trade with Afghanistan, Denmark, Russia, Romania, Austria and other countries is profitable. Nepal has exported goods worth Rs 774 crore 15 thousand while importing goods worth Rs 842 lakh 97 thousand from Afghanistan. Nepal has imported goods like melons, figs, dried chillies from Afghanistan and exported only machinery materials such as excavators.

Nepal has exported goods worth 70 million 15 lakh 36 thousand rupees while importing 36 million 26 million 22 thousand rupees from Denmark. Syringes, camera parts, diapers and other items have been imported from Denmark. Nepal has exported felt goods, blankets, jerseys, shoes, scarves, pickles, etc. to Denmark.
