We have given instructions to stop such programs as they do not benefit the customers: Telecommunication Authority
What you should know
The 'Sadhain On Crorepati' scheme launched by telecom service provider Ncell for the last one month has been closed after the intervention of the regulator. The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has suddenly intervened in Ncell's plans as it is a practice for various companies to introduce customer plans to promote their products and plans.
Ncell has claimed that the scheme was launched with the intention of rewarding its customers after informing the authority. Although the plan has been closed since July 1, Ncell has mentioned that the process of awarding prizes to customers who have been announced as winners will continue. "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the customers," Ncell said, "We request that the customers who participate in this plan within the operational period will be announced as winners and rewarded according to the company's commitment."
The regulatory authority said that Ncell's customer plan is a lottery program. According to Lottery Act 2025, the authority's spokesperson Meen Prasad Aryal said that such a scheme has been ordered to be closed.
"The Lottery Act says that such schemes cannot be done," Aryal said, "We have asked Ncell to close it, because it is not in the interest of the customer." It is said that the authority is also studying what to do about the lotteries that have been opened and a decision will be made after the next 15/20 days.
Ncell has completed the 'Sadhain On Crorepati Yojana' for four weeks. When the fifth week of the program is going on, the authority has instructed to stop it immediately. Those who won tickets from Sunday to Wednesday of the fifth week were announced live on Thursday. The winner of the bumper prize of Rs 1 crore has also been announced.
Even if the regulator asks to close, Ncell has said in a notice that it will proceed as a responsible company by giving prizes to the winners. The company has announced a total of 50 winners so far.
Among them, 24 people have already received 1 lakh rupees. The verification process of remaining 26 is going on. In the verification, the company will find the winner based on the lottery number and contact them to confirm whether they have received Ncell SIM or not.
