Government income-expenditure: budget expenditure 15 trillion 23 billion, income 12 trillion 19 billion

What you should know

In the last fiscal year 2081/82, both the government's income and expenditure were weak. According to the data of the Comptroller General's Office, compared to the annual target, the government's income has decreased to 82% and expenditure to 81%.

The government brought a budget of 18 trillion 60 billion 30 million rupees for the last fiscal year. By the end of June, 15 trillion 23 billion 10 million 68 lakh rupees have been spent, which is equal to 81.87 percent of the annual target. For the current year, 11 trillion 40 billion 664 billion 45 million rupees have been allocated, 85.95 percent ie 9 trillion 80 billion 28 billion 21 million rupees have been spent.

Similarly, 3 trillion 52 billion 354 million rupees have been allocated in the capital title, 63.2 percent, i.e. 2 trillion 22 billion 68 billion 23 million rupees, has been spent.

According to the Comptroller General's Office, 87.14 percent of the allocation of 3 trillion 67 billion 2844 million rupees under the heading of financial management, i.e. 3 trillion 20 billion 42 million rupees, has been spent.

The income of the government is also seen to be much less than the target. For the last fiscal year, 14 trillion 71 billion 62 billion 95 million rupees was set to be collected, but only 82.88 percent, i.e. 12 trillion 19 billion 71 billion 86 million rupees, was collected. In this way, comparing the government's income and expenditure situation, the expenditure is 3 trillion 3 billion 38 crore rupees more than the income.

There has been only 83.06 percent progress towards the revenue collection target of Rs. The government has been able to collect revenue equal to only 11 trillion 78 billion 82 crore rupees. Of which tax revenue is 81.75 percent of the annual target ie 10 trillion 49 billion 875 million rupees and non-tax revenue 95.45 percent i.e. 1 trillion 28 billion 94 million rupees has been collected, according to the data of the Comptroller General's Office.

Similarly, only 44.97 percent progress has been seen in receiving foreign grants. For the last fiscal year, the target of receiving foreign aid was 52 billion 326 million rupees, but less than half of the target, i.e. 23 billion 52 million 87 million rupees, was collected.

Looking at the income-expenditure situation in this way, it is seen that the government has not been able to achieve even after revising the target twice. The income-expenditure estimate was reduced for the first time last January through the mid-term review and the second time last May when the budget for the current financial year 2082/83 was brought.

According to the government's estimate last May, 89.4 percent of the initial annual allocation, i.e. 16 trillion 62 billion 37 million rupees, was expected to be spent in the budget. While the actual expenditure has decreased by about 1 trillion 40 billion rupees.

In the ratio of initial allocation, the revised estimate of 88.5 percent for current expenditure, 84.4 percent for capital and 97.6 percent for financial management was made by the government last May. Similarly, revenue mobilization was said to be 12 trillion 67 billion 39 billion rupees.
