About 59 percent of paddy has been planted across the country so far. According to the Ministry of Agriculture Development, 8 lakh 16 thousand 405 hectares of land have been planted till June 29.
Compared to last year, there has been a decrease in planting by almost 8 percent. In terms of percentage, the highest amount of planting has been done in Sudurpaschim Province in about 164,000 hectares. It is said that 93 percent planting has been done in that province. Planting in 64 thousand hectares has been completed in Karnali province. 83 percent planting has been done here.
In Lumbini province, planting has been completed in two lakh 23 thousand hectares, in terms of percentage, 73 percent planting has been done. During the same period last year, about 67 percent of paddy was planted. According to the data collected by the ministry till Sunday, planting is continuing in some parts of the country.
It is estimated that 98 percent planting will be done by the last week of July. According to Mahanand Joshi, information officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Terai region is considered good in terms of rice production and area. From that area, the productivity of rice increased and contributed 70 percent of the total production is 30 percent of the production is in the hilly areas.
In the last fiscal year 2080/81, 57 lakh 24 thousand 234 metric tons of rice was produced. Bad weather, natural calamities, heavy rains and lack of rains have a negative effect on the planting and in some areas, planting is delayed.
About 1.4 million hectares of land are planted in the country. It is estimated that production will increase due to the recent development of knowledge, skills, technology and the development of advanced varieties of seeds. It is said that if there is a decrease in rice production by about 10 percent, there will be a decrease in the country's gross domestic product by one percent.
According to the ministry, about 3.5 million metric tons of edible rice will be produced from the 6 million metric tons of rice estimated to be produced in the country this year.
