Road opened for construction of Dodhara Chandni dry port

With the completion of tree felling, the construction of a dry port will begin at Dodhara Chandni in Mahakalipari. With the completion of tree felling work in Gauri Shankar Community Forest of Shuklaphanta National Park, the way for the construction process has been opened.

The cutting of 1,593 trees in Gaurishankar Community Forest in Dodhara Chandni Municipality-1, which is bordered with India, has been completed. Initially, 1,702 trees in the area of 41 hectares of community forest had to be cut, but after 109 trees were stolen, the number of trees to be cut was reduced.

As wood can also be stolen, the cut wood has been piled up at Piparaiya post in the park. "Now that the tree cutting work is over, the field has been cleared, the construction process will start soon," said Ashish Gajurel, executive director of the Intermodal Transport & Development Committee, "in a way, it seems that the work has started.

The company that got the contract to build the dry port has started the survey work. Gajurel said that although the work of cutting trees has been completed, the committee has already informed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply through a letter. Correspondence with India will now be through the Ministry of External Affairs.

After that, he said that the construction process will proceed jointly from foundation laying. India has signed a contract with a construction company for the construction of a dry port worth 3.8 billion Nepalese rupees. Gajurel says that the goal is to be able to work within the next 3 years.

It is almost two decades since the discussion of construction of a dry port in Dodhara Chandni started. Meanwhile, many studies and monitoring have also been done. Locals seem happy as the construction of the dry port will go ahead even though it is delayed. After the construction of the dry port, trade with India is expected to increase through this port.

As infrastructure of the dry port, an 8-km 6-lane access road has been constructed from Gaddachouki to Dodhara Chandni Municipality-1 Malaria Nala along with a 4-lane concrete bridge over the Mahakali river. Part of the access road remains to be paved.
