As the production of eggs has decreased due to excessive heat, the demand has increased and the prices have increased. Compared to the past, the production has decreased by 25 percent and the price has increased.

According to Dr. Anant Dahal, Deputy Professor of Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur, due to the heat, egg production has also decreased as chickens eat less feed. Production has decreased by around twenty five percent. Diseases appear in this season, when the humidity increases due to rain, heat stress increases for chickens. which reduces production. 

According to Vinod Pokharel, Central President of Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders Association, it has become difficult to meet the demand after the decrease in production. The association has fixed the support price with effect from today. According to the increased support price, the farm price of Chitwan has been fixed at 480 per crate for large and 450 for medium. Both have increased by Rs 30 per credit.  Pokharel said that the businessmen sell it at the wholesale price of 3 thousand 540 and 3 thousand 330 for the big one (seven crates). Pokharel said that four months ago, 40,000 cartons of eggs were produced daily, but now it has dropped to 28,000 to 30,000.

As the price of feed increased with the summer and the price of eggs decreased, many farmers sold chickens and could not raise new chicks. He says that the demand for eggs in the market has increased after the opening of schools and campuses and the increase in tourists. Due to the decrease in the price of eggs, many people sold chickens because they could not afford it. 

He says that many farmers have also been displaced. Last year, the price of eggs reached 525 per crate and dropped to 350. The cost price of eggs in Nepal is 16 rupees 56 paise per egg.
