Energy entrepreneurs have protested on social media, demanding the withdrawal of the 'take and pay' provision in the power purchase and sale agreement (PPA) introduced by the government in the budget. The energy entrepreneurs have requested the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Energy Minister and the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority to withdraw the 'take and pay' provision in the PPA.

Last Friday, the energy promoter met Prime Minister KP Sharma Olila and submitted a memorandum. On Saturday, along with Prime Minister Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka and Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Hitendradev Shakya at the same time  They have asked to withdraw the 'take and pay' provision by 'SMS'. On the third day of the

movement, energy entrepreneurs came to social media and protested against the provision saying, 'Abolish the Take and Pay PPA that will end the private sector in energy, cause loadshedding, drown investors and destroy the country's economy'.

In the budget of the next fiscal year announced by the government on May 15th last year, energy entrepreneurs have been strongly protesting against the power purchase agreement (PPA) of the river run-of-river (ROR) hydropower project to be built by the private sector as per the 'take and pay' provisions.

Mohan Kumar Dangi, Senior Vice President of Independent Energy Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN) and coordinator of IPPAN Movement Committee, said that a message was written on social media on the third day of the movement to pressurize the government to withdraw 'Take and Pay'. Dangi, the coordinator of the movement committee, said that if the government does not listen to the demand even if the

comes on social media, then they will shake the chief whip of the political party representing the people in the House and if the demand is not met, they will go to the street protest in the second phase and hand over the keys to the private sector hydropower project to the government in the third phase.
