After 39 months of construction, Gwarco overpass has been put into operation. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the overpass on Friday. Prime Minister Oli, who participated as the chief guest, invited SSP Navraj Adhikari, head of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, to cut the ribbon.
Prime Minister Oli said that the overpass has been built for the first time and it will facilitate traffic in that section. He says that drivers and passengers will not have to suffer from traffic jams like before on the Koteshwar-Satdobato section from Friday.
Senior Divisional Engineer of Quality, Research and Development Center under Road Department Pradeep Bhandari said that the overpass was built to manage traffic jams in this section. Vehicles passing through the overpass will no longer have to stop in the middle. Its maintenance work will be done by the contractor for five years. There is a condition to work with the same company for 10 years if there is any defect in the design. The overpass is 320 meters long from Gwarko Chowk towards Koteshwar and 185 meters long towards Satdobato. There are four layers of blackboard on both sides. The ramp distance of the overpass is 10.2 m. The overpass has four lanes. Under the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, Ashish-Parallel-Religer JV has taken its contract for 176 million 688 thousand rupees. Bhandari said that since the businessmen could not work despite the specified time and repeated extensions, they were forced to work with compensation from December 10 to May 31.
He said that since there is no contract for the installation of street lights and CC cameras, he will proceed in coordination with the road department. Its construction was started in February 2078 to be able to work within two years. According to the contract, the work was to be completed by February 12, 2080. Even though the contractor company repeatedly extended the time, the work was done by imposing fines.
