Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari and Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of International Affairs Tariq Al Hamad have reached an agreement on the important issue of taking Nepali workers.
Minister Bhandari's private secretariat informed that during the sideline bilateral meeting and discussion held in Geneva on Tuesday, there was an important agreement between the two countries regarding the transportation of workers. Minister Bhandari said that Saudi Arabia is ready to immediately sign two agreements regarding the skill certification program of general and skilled workers, keeping the contract of domestic workers. Nepal has already agreed on the draft of the general labor agreement with Saudi Arabia.
'It has already been agreed on a labor agreement with Saudi Arabia to take ordinary workers. Minister Bhandari said, "Saudi Arabia took the position that the general agreement can be signed only after the agreement on domestic workers is signed." The current meeting has decided to proceed with the agreement that has been agreed and to do more homework on the draft agreement related to domestic workers.'
He informed the Saudi side that there is a directive of Nepal's parliamentary committee that domestic workers should be contracted only after a labor agreement has been reached between the two countries. Minister Bhandari also informed that a pilot project is necessary for this.
