Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said during the budget speech that Tribhuvan International Airport will be developed into a boutique airport by expanding capacity to manage the increasing passenger pressure. This topic was also included in the policy and program of 2076.
Presenting the government's policies and programs in the Parliament, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that the airport will be developed as a 'boutique' international airport reflecting the original tradition and culture. In December 2075, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation started working on building a boutique airport.
Tribhuvan International Airport, which was completed in 2045 with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank, is built in the style of a farm. It was designed by two German and Japanese engineers after being influenced by the fields around Kathmandu.
Finance Minister Paidel has said that 4.15 billion has been allocated to develop Tribhuvan Airport into a boutique airport. It has also been mentioned in the budget that necessary actions will be taken to bring Nepal out of the aviation security list within the next financial year.
Domestic aviation will be made more safe and accessible and Pokhara International Airport will be developed into a tourist hub, Finance Minister Paidel says. Paidel also said that necessary facilities will be provided to make Gautam Buddha International Airport affordable for tourists and workers.
